China applies multiple new medical technologies to fight Now Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)

Now Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) has affected all over the world. Until March 4th, The cumulative number of confirmed cases worldwide is close to 100,000 (about 80,000 in China), and China has cured more than 50,000 patients.

China is quite efficient in preventing and controlling Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). In the process of curing patients, it is well known that patients need intravenous injections to maintain the nutrition required by the body, and patients also need intravenous injections to deliver drugs to the body to fight the virus.

How we do venipuncture with protective clothing?

As medical staffs are wearing a series of protective equipment such as protective clothing, gloves, goggles, every medical operation becomes more difficult than usual. Especially the venipuncture. They are influenced by goggles and gloves very much. After wearing for a long time, water mist will appear in the goggles, which will greatly affect the sight of medical staff. In addition, wearing multi-layer gloves greatly affect the tactile sensation of medical staff. When they meet difficult puncture patients, medical staff often need to puncture repeatedly to be successful. This situation puts a lot of pressure on the medical staff.

Knowing this situation, the Chinese medical device company-BLZ Technology (Wuhan) Co., Ltd. donated serval VeinSight VS400 vein finder to the hospitals in Wuhan to help the medical staff on venipuncture.

Section Four: Infusion Equipment
Chapter 22. VASCULAR VISUALIZATION
22.1 To ensure patient safety, the clinician is competent in the use of vascular visualization technology for vascular access device (VAD) insertion. This knowledge includes, but is not limited to, appropriate vessels, size, depth, location, and potential complications.
22.2 Vascular visualization technology is used in patients with difficult venous access and/or after failed venipuncture attempts.
22.3 Vascular visualization technology is employed to increase the success with peripheral cannulation and decrease the need for central vascular access device (CVAD) insertion, when other factors do not require a CVAD.

On Feb 4th, 2020, the Chinese Nursing Association had released “For Novel coronavirus pneumonia patients-Recommendations for medical staff’s intravenous infusion treatment work (first edition)”.
The “Recommendations” said that As medical staff are wearing a series of protective equipment such as protective clothing, gloves, goggles, the puncture is more difficult than usual. If puncturing is difficult, do not perform a blind puncture. Use vein visualization techniques to help the medical staff to do venipuncture (such as infrared light and ultrasound).

VeinSight™ vein finder VS400 bases on the near-infrared absorbance difference between veins and surround tissue, it projects accurate and real-time vein image on the skin of patient. VS400 can digitally displays a map of the vasculature on the surface of the skin in real time, aiding healthcare professionals to verify vein patency and avoid valves or bifurcations.Vein finder is a proven modality that can improve patient care and save valuable time for both clinicians and patients.
The VeinSight™ vein finder can help locate the patient’s vein easily and quickly by projecting a map of the veins on the skin which means simplify the task of locating the point of needle placement, particularly for patients with difficult venous access (DVA).

  • To check filling degree of blood in veins
VeinSight™series of vascular imaging navigation instruments not only can monitor static information (such as positions, structures and branches, etc.) of veins but also visually observe the flowing direction of blood and qualitatively assess blood flowing speed and filling degree of the blood.
  • Flowing condition of monitored medical solution in veins
VeinSight™series of vascular imaging navigation instruments can visually monitor the flowing conditions of medical solution in veins, which can visually judge where medical soultions is leaked; Especially during the injection of haematoma medicines, the monitoring has an important application to avoid the leakage of medical solution causing body tissue to be damaged.
  • Judging whether there is a haematoma after intravenous injection
After the completion of intravenous injection,VeinSight™series of vascular imaging navigation instruments can be used to observe whether there is a haematoma (for example after the veins is punctured, a haematoma will be caused after venous blood occurs leakage inside tissue) so that health care staff can timely treat it to avoid patient’s secondary puncturing and others.

With the help of vein finder, the medical staff’s venipuncture becomes more convenient and efficient and they can better cure patients.
